Len Goodman Head Judge of Strictly come Dancing celebrates 25 years hosting freestyle dance competitions at UK holiday company Pontin’s
The talented and and extremely popular Head Judge of Strictly Come Dancing in the UK and Dancing with the Stars in the US, Mr Len Goodman reached a milestone on 23rd October 2009 hosting dance competitions at Pontin’s for 25 years
Over the past 25 years Len has literally hosted thousands of dance competitions and events since holding his first event in the early 80’s at Pontin’s Camber Holiday Park in Rye, Sussex. Len is delighted to reach such a milestone and has no intention of slowing down the number of events he hosts and to celebrate he has great pleasure in announcing today he will be hosting a new event - Come Dance with Me - Len Goodman.
However, Len’s relationship with the company stretches back even further – nearly 40 years to 1970 when he was approached by Frank Mayne, Dance Director at Pontin’s to come and demonstrate with his then dance partner Cherry Kingston at Pontin’s Camber Sands on a Monday night, Pontin’s Pakefield Holiday Park, Suffolk on a Tuesday and then two other Pontin’s Holiday Parks in Norfolk on a Wednesday.
Over the years Len has hosted dance competition festivals at Pontin’s Camber Sands in ballroom & latin and freestyle dance for 15 and 25 years respectively, as well as judging many other dance events all around the world. Len continues to host competitions at Pontin’s and the presentation on 23rd October was held at the 25th Camber Sands Freestyle Dance Festival Competition. Even with his commitments to the Strictly Come Dancing Show on BBC1 every Saturday night and Dancing with the Stars in the US every Monday night, Len still insists on hosting his dance events and Pontin’s are delighted that he will be hosting a new dance event in the summer of 2010.
Come Dance with Me – Len Goodman summer 2010
. Len commented: “ I am delighted to be celebrating a quarter of a century relationship with Pontin’s, doing what I love, teaching others the joy of dancing, and with people who want to learn a new skill. It is one of the best forms of exercise one can get and it’s a great way to make friends and have fun.
“I have experienced the peaks and troughs of “in and out of fashion” for Ballroom dancing over the years but, since the revival of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing programme in 2004 the public has genuinely taken to not only watching how all these celebrities learn to dance but it has spurned people to take up dancing” continued Len Goodman.
Pontin’s Chairman, Graham Parr commented: It gives me great pleasure to be here today to present Len Goodman with this plaque in recognition of his longstanding relationship with Pontin’s and I am delighted to say that Len has no intention of slowing down and will be continuing to entertain Pontin’s guests for many more years to come.”
